Dr. Jens Kr�ger heads the Finance line of business and the SAP Innovation Center unit in the board area of Products & Innovation. Jens oversees a global development organization that is dedicated to delivering SAP S/4HANA Finance in the cloud. Prior to joining SAP in September 2013, Jens was co-representative of Dr. Plattner's research chair at the Hasso Plattner Institute for Software Systems Engineering. He was one of the founding members of the prominent joint research project with SAP, which built the first prototype of SAP s award-winning in-memory platform, SAP HANA. Jens holds a master's degree in business administration from the Free University of Berlin, Germany, and received a doctorate degree for his dissertation, Enterprise-Specific In-Memory Data Management, from the Hasso Plattner Institute at the University of Potsdam.

A plumbing manual.

Hubby is studying for his plumbing test and so we had to buy this book. It comes with prelabeled sticky tabs and a couple of blank ones too which is really nice and something I can say no one that I bought a college textbook from had the foresight to give me. I don't think this is pleasure reading by any stretch of the imagination but hopefully it gets him through his test!

Emotions are as old as humankind. But what do we know about them and what importance do we assign to them? Emotional Lexicons is the first cultural history of terms of emotion found in German, French, and English language encyclopaedias since the late seventeenth century. Insofar as these reference works formulated normative concepts, they documented shifts in the way the educated middle classes were taught to conceptualise emotion by a literary medium targeted specifically to them. As well as providing a record of changing language use (and the surrounding debates), many encyclopaedia articles went further than simply providing basic knowledge; they also presented a moral vision to their readers and guidelines for behaviour. Implicitly or explicitly, they participated in fundamental discussions on human nature: Are emotions in the mind or in the body? Can we "read" another person's feelings in their face? Do animals have feelings? Are men less emotional than women? Are there differences between the emotions of children and adults? Can emotions be "civilised"? Can they make us sick? Do groups feel together? Do our emotions connect us with others or create distance? The answers to these questions are historically contingent, showing that emotional knowledge was and still is closely linked to the social, cultural, and political structures of modern societies.

Emotional Lexicons analyses European discourses in science, as well as in broader society, about affects, passions, sentiments, and emotions. It does not presume to refine our understanding of what emotions actually are, but rather to present the spectrum of knowledge about emotion embodied in concepts whose meanings shift through time, in order to enrich our own concept of emotion and to lend nuances to the interdisciplinary conversation about them.

About the Author

Ute Frevert is Director at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development and a Scientific Member of the Max Planck Society. From 2003 to 2007 she was professor of German history at Yale University and previously taught History at the Universities of Konstanz, Bielefeld, and the Free University in Berlin. Her research interests include the social and cultural history of the modern period, the history of emotions, gender history, and political history. Some of her best known work has examined the history of women and gender relations in modern Germany, social and medical politics in the nineteenth century, and the impact of military conscription from 1814 to the present day. Ute Frevert is an honorary professor at the Free University in Berlin and member of several scientific advisory boards. In 1998 she was awarded the prestigious Leibniz Prize.

Great set of books. DON'T buy them seperately.

As has been stated before, anyone who wants to use the Chinese series books should get at least three -
1. Bluish color, with lessons (mostly dialogues) in pinyin and English
2. Red book, with exercises and grammar notes for the first blue one
3. Yellow book, for character practice.
There is also a green book that has all the lessons from the blue book translated into traditional and simplified characters, which could have been useful to me, if I had only known of its existance...
The three books set comes in two versions, one in pinyin, and
one in GR, here's the explanation:
Pinyin is the standard romanization of Chinese in the People's Republic of China, so native speakers should be familiar with it more - important if you want to take a tutor.
Gr is a kind of romanization that is apparently very popular for teaching to foreigners. Most Chinese people are not used to it, however. So I guess it's better for professional teachers.
Bottom line, ask your tutor/teacher which version they recommend.
If you're not sure, I'd recommend the pinyin - it worked for me so far.
I've been using first three for about 4 months, and I'm already able to use Chinese in simple conversations. Mind you, you need to put a some time and effort and a lot of patience every day for this to work. The people who wrote the book recommended using the Gr set, but I found the pinyin much easier. Just stick to the instructions inside, don't rush things, and follow the yellow brick road!!

Unfortunately, the other two (so far) reviews are incorrect

This set is not merely the blue book, but instead all but the green book (dialog text in Chinese characters). That fact is plainly stated in the description itself. Please keep this in mind when reading the other reviews. As for my opinion of the set, I certainly think this is one (three?) of the better Chinese textbooks available, and was what I used when I was a Chinese major at the introductory level.

This book is a fairly all-inclusive 'primer' on Chinese, set into conversation format. No formal lessons are provided, nor is an English or character translation. This book is of little use to any amateur Chinese student without the other three 'Chinese Primer' books.

Black Widow is another fast moving and terrific novel from J Robert Kennedy. It involves most of the favorite characters with Dylan Kane, the Delt� Force and the CIA operatives that are all involved in a present day scenario that will have other readers not wanting to put the book down until the end which has twists and turns that keep the reader guessing what is next! Kudos to the author for another page tuner

Awesome...unbelievable that this fiction plot turns out to be what we are seening on CNN and FOX...it is real. Thanks Robert for the" wake up call" to get inside the minds and charcter of the ISIS...our real enemy may be us if we do not start taking these dudes for real! New York could have been Paris, and still may be. Robert, you are doing us the honor of showing what may happen, unless we begin to stand firm against this enemy. Look what happened in Mali a few days ago, and more will come...stand tall America! Former Peace Corps Volunteer, Anita Datar gave her life in Mali, the only American to die in this recent attack, there will be more!

A Scary Storyline that Could Easily Become Reality

I have read, and enjoyed, all of Mr. Kennedy's books in the James Acton, Delta Force and Dylan Kane series. I would have really enjoyed The Black Widow if it didn't point out so clearly how easy an attack on U.S. soil can be accomplished. It also describes those who would generate the attack as more intelligent and organized than most Americans would believe.and with a motivation that we can't understand. Certainly there are some fictional liberties taken to make the story flow but this book lays out a scenario that could be more reality than fiction. Something I think every American should read.
