Black Widow is another fast moving and terrific novel from J Robert Kennedy. It involves most of the favorite characters with Dylan Kane, the Delt� Force and the CIA operatives that are all involved in a present day scenario that will have other readers not wanting to put the book down until the end which has twists and turns that keep the reader guessing what is next! Awesome...unbelievable that this fiction plot turns out to be what we are seening on CNN and FOX...it is real. Thanks Robert for the" wake up call" to get inside the minds and charcter of the ISIS...our real enemy may be us if we do not start taking these dudes for real! New York could have been Paris, and still may be. Robert, you are doing us the honor of showing what may happen, unless we begin to stand firm against this enemy. Look what happened in Mali a few days ago, and more will come...stand tall America! Former Peace Corps Volunteer, Anita Datar gave her life in Mali, the only American to die in this recent attack, there will be more!

A Scary Storyline that Could Easily Become Reality

I have read, and enjoyed, all of Mr. Kennedy's books in the James Acton, Delta Force and Dylan Kane series. I would have really enjoyed The Black Widow if it didn't point out so clearly how easy an attack on U.S. soil can be accomplished. It also describes those who would generate the attack as more intelligent and organized than most Americans would believe.and with a motivation that we can't understand. Certainly there are some fictional liberties taken to make the story flow but this book lays out a scenario that could be more reality than fiction. Something I think every American should read.

Worthwhile!

Is this book the 101st idea that will change architecture? Yes and no.

The book's structure is original and allows it to cover a wide variety of topics, from floors to tectonic architecture to computer assisted design. As such, it underscores the breadth of the fields touched by the art and science of building. The author is clearly very knowledgeable and he is familiar as well with traditions other than his own country's, notably of Germany and France. Also, illustrations are abundant, high-quality, diversified and often beautiful.

Unfortunately, the book's format limits discussion on each topic to a single page. This is frustrating at times since many subjects deserve a much more detailed coverage. The lack of continuity from one page to the next also requires much concentration on the reader's part.

All in all, this is a worthwhile work though anyone truly interested in the history of architectural notions would find more satisfaction in a more traditional presentation.

If you are looking for a coffee table book then this is nice. However as student of architectural history and a professional in the commercial building field I find many flaws with these ideas. For example one idea is 'Iron'. Then another idea is 'Column & Beam'. Material and forms are two different content areas. Column & Beam is really a steel post & lintel which is the most basic architectural form. So to say that the most fundamental form 'changed' anything is silly as architecture couldn't exist without it. Steel changed architecture and was the next step after Iron.

Also 'Doors' didn't change architecture either. After post & lintel a door is the next step. If you can't get inside the structure then it has no purpose. Symmetry isn't an idea either, it was a necessity for evenly distributing the load. Steel, once again, would change this as load could then be transported to different places and allow asymmetry. Classical Orders? This isn't a idea! It was something created by ancient civilizations as decoration and to stand apart from other civilizations. Now the author is confusing architecture with decorative arts, two entirely different things!

I would rename this book '100 things movie architects talk about'

A better gift for a current student would be an architectural dictionary. It has tons more information (and accurate) and doesn't confuse theory, innovation, other fields of study, and fundamental principles.

Maverick Wild is an Engaging Western Romance Read

Maverick Wild gave me many hours of entertainment this weekend. It is the second story in the Morgan brothers duo by Stacey Kayne.

Chance Morgan is eager to continue his carefree bachelor existence and not at all eager to get married. However, meeting Cora Mae Tindale again puts a wrench in those plans. Cora is the daughter of his hated stepmother. When they were kids, she was a boon companion who Chance and his brother enjoyed corrupting. Many times they got they young girl in trouble with her mean, overbearing mother, but she never complained about the abuse that she suffered at her mother's hands.

When Chance and Tucker ran away to join the Confederate Army, they knew the couldn't take little Cora Mae with them. But Chance promised to return for her. However, when they were able to come back, Cora was gone, and their stepmonster had sold their father's farm. Bitter about women and how marrying them destroyed a man's life, Chance vowed never to get married.

Twenty-one years later, they are reunited when Cora Mae arrives in Wyoming to visit her stepbrothers for a short time. When she arrives, she finds that Chance has become a hard, dangerous stranger who only sees a hated Tindale when he looks at her. Little does she know that he sees a beautiful red-head with bewitching curves that make it very difficult to be resistant to her.

He needn't worry that she wants to trap him into marriage. After a painful and harrowing experience with a man that her mother tries to force her to marry, Cora Mae has sworn never to marry. She just wants to feel a sense of family and home that she felt with she tagged along with Chance and Tucker as a girl.

Maverick Wild was an excellent book. It helped to cement my appreciation for Stacey Kayne as a western writer. It's not a copycat of her first book, Maverick Wild. The heroine and hero are different people with different motivations. Yet the elements that made her first novel appeal to me are there in spades: emotion, vivid descriptions of western life, good storytelling, and likable, appealing characters.

Cora Mae is not a rough and ready cowgirl like Skylar. She's more of a homemaker who is very happy knitting and crocheting, and baking goodies. She is a sturdy, curvaceous woman, who has been made to feel that she is unattractive. Although she is self-conscious after years of being put down by her mother, she has an inner strength and spunk that makes her a worthy opponent for Chance. She also has a sweetness and a kindness that makes everyone around her love her. Chance sees this in her, but is determined to resist the pull she has on him, at times showing a suspicious attitude towards her that is hurtful to Cora Mae.

Chance is definitely a western hero. He's very attractive in a hard, sexy way. He's tough and independent, but clearly loves his family and wants to protect them. Although he fights his attraction for Cora Mae fiercely, when he realizes how dangerous her plight is, he steps up to the plate to take measures to keep her safe, even if it means losing his freedom. Of course, deep down, the real reason is that he wants her to stay.

The chemistry between the characters is just as heady and appealing as it was in Maverick Wild, but there is also a poignancy as Cora Mae heals from her fears of men and opens her heart and mind to being loved by Chance.

If you would like to read a western that reinforces the joy of hearth and home, and features characters who are struggling to get over painful pasts to find a happy future, you will love this book.

Equal Sequel to the Best Romantic Western so far

A great second book in the "Wild" series, although just as good as a stand alone (but really, why not just read them all?). I think I'm falling in love with Stacey Kayne's writing. Reading her books is like coming home, she does such a wonderful job at developing relationships between the reader and the characters. My problem in so many other romances is that the characters never quite seem like real people. Not the case in Miss Kayne's books. Not only do you feel like you know them all, but you really like them all (also sometimes a problem for me in other novels). I have no doubt that if I could both time travel and make fiction come to life I'd be hanging at the Morgan ranch with the bunch of them.
The first book, "Mustang Wild", follows the independent Skylar who is better at riding trails and training horses than most men. "Maverick Wild" follows Cora Mae, a very different but equally likable gal. For those of you who have grown tired of hearing about how tiny every woman's waist is, this book will be a welcome change. Cora Mae is a short and curvy homemaker sort, sweet and sassy all in one, the kind of girl you'd like for your best friend.
Stacy Kayne had me from page one. I couldn't wait to read the entire book and then find myself both satisfied and sad after it was over. Fortunately I have a few of her books yet to go.
I wish I could add on a bonus star to two...I love these books that much.

About the Author

William Hustrulid studied Minerals Engineering at the University of Minnesota. After obtaining his Ph.D. degree in 1968, his career has included responsible roles in both mining academia and in the mining business itself. He has served as Professor of Mining Engineering at the University of Utah and at the Colorado School of Mines and as a Guest Professor at theTechnical University in Lule�, Sweden. In addition, he has held mining R&D positions for companies in the USA, Sweden, and the former Republic of Zaire. He is a Member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering (NAE) and a Foreign Member of the Swedish Royal Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA). He currently holds the rank of Professor Emeritus at the University of Utah and manages Hustrulid Mining Services in Spokane,Washington.

Mark Kuchta studied Mining Engineering at the Colorado School of Mines and received his Ph.D. degree from the Technical University in Lule�, Sweden. He has had a wide-ranging career in the mining business. This has included working as a contract miner in the uranium mines of western Colorado and 10 years of experience in various positions with LKAB in northern Sweden. At present, Mark is an Associate Professor of Mining Engineering at the Colorado School of Mines. He is actively involved in the education of future mining engineers at both undergraduate and graduate levels and conducts a very active research program. His professional interests include the use of high-pressure waterjets for rock scaling applications in underground mines, strategic mine planning, advanced mine production scheduling and the development of user-friendly mine software.

Randall K. “Randy” Martin studied Metallurgical Engineering at the Colorado School of Mines and later received a Master of Science in Mineral Economics from Mines. He has over thirty years of experience as a geologic modeler and mine planner, having worked for Amax Mining, Pincock, Allen & Holt, and Tetratech. Currently he serves as President�of R.K. About the Author

VLADIMIR NABOKOV studied French and Russian literature at Trinity College, Cambridge, then lived in Berlin and Paris, writing prolifically in Russian under the pseudonym Sirin. In 1940, he left France for the United States, where he wrote some of his greatest works—Bend Sinister (1947), Lolita (1955), Pnin (1957), and Pale Fire (1962)—and translated his earlier Russian novels into English. He taught at Wellesley, Harvard, and Cornell. He died in Montreux, Switzerland, in 1977.

Thomas Karshan is the author of Vladimir Nabokov and the Art of Play and co- translator of Nabokov’s The Tragedy of Mister Morn. Previously a research fellow at Christ Church, Oxford, and Queen Mary, University of London, he is now a lecturer in literature at the University of East Anglia. He lives in London and Norwich.

A non-poetry-reading Nabokov fan's perspective

I've never been much of a poetry reader--my past experiences with poetry have often left me emotionally unmoved and vaguely frustrated. I realize this is more of a reflection of myself when reading poetry, but I mention it as a contrast to my great enjoyment of this collection, and as an admittance of my lack of knowledge of the technical or historical details of poetry as a medium.

I purchased this collection because I love Nabokov's playful way with words, and poetry seems like a natural fit for his writing style. It is! The poems in this collection range from cute sketches to extended narratives, but they are universally good, and many of them are astonishing. Depending on your tastes, some poems will be misses thematically, but there is such a variety that you're sure to find ones you love, and the ones you love will move you deeply.

Timely and Enjoyable

This is a well-bound, well-typeset edition of the poetry of our greatly missed Vladimir. Its always nice to find a new read from the master. The original editions of his poetry are very expensive, so this gives a reasonably-priced access to these works.
There are a few omissions, but if you're a fan, you have them in other volumes. And, if you're a fan, you'll need this book!
Nabokov would be proud of this volume.

This is not Nabokov's fault -- but I need to warn other readers not to buy this book if you already have the Penguin Collected Poems. The content of the two volumes is identical in every way.

Want to age beautifully, and live longer and healthier?

This is a good book that guides you to ubderstand a basic ideas of what Sirtfood is. It also gives a good diet menus. I highly recommend someone who wants to live longer and healthier, and you will be beautiful inside and outside by Sirtfood. Since I did try Sirtfood in everyday meal, I never get hungry. Sirtfood suppresses my appetite even I eat normal amount!!!
