The Surgeon of Crowthorne

An incredibly serendipitous account of how the Oxford English Dictionary came to fruition after years of dedicated hard work by an army of voracious readers and word lovers.

Most importantly, Winchester tells the tale of Dr W. C. Minor, a former US Army doctor whom after a series of misfortunate life events, became one of the longest serving inmates at the Broadmoor Asylum for the Criminally Insane in the English town of Crowthorne, in addition to being one of the Oxford English Dictionary's most prolific contributors.

This is a wonderful historical account of the goings-on behind the scenes in the crafting of one of the world's most famous and vital reference books, which was made by the people and for the people.

About the Author
The author's books are always about making the lives of children, and their families, happy, interesting, satisfying, and geared to the stage of development of each child. Her experience in this area is broad and international. In 1963-1964 Susan Mayclin Stephenson spent four months aboard the first university on shipboard traveling around the world and studying the cultures of Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. This awakened a life-long interest in cultures of the world, specifically concerning the education of children from birth on. She has degrees in philosophy and education, three AMI (Association Montessori Internationale) diplomas: 0-3 years, 2.5-3 years, and 6-12 years, and over 40 years of teaching experience. In 2001 Susan took a course on Multiple, from Dr. Howard Gardner, at Harvard, University to help her understand the variety of learning styles she had seen catered to in Montessori classes. Susan has traveled in over 60 countries and often shares these experiences in oil paintings. She has taught ages 2-17, worked with parents and teachers, consulted with schools, and served as an examiner on Montessori training courses. We opened the beautiful woven bag that held the chess pieces

I suggested playing chess to my grand daughter who just turned 5. We opened the beautiful woven bag that held the chess pieces. One by one she took them out and we named each one by their traditional name used for the game. We placed the pieces on the board where they would be in the game. I asked if she would like to see how the move. She said yes, and as we moved each piece she named it without me saying anything. After a few moves she said i know how to play it my way. Jazz then proceeded to set up the pieces in an orderly fashion, she gave one to me and two to her, then told me how to move when it was my turn. We went through various set ups which were designed by colors and shape of the pieces. I followed Susan's suggestion on how to play with children. It was very helpful in to how to listen for them to explore and love what we were playing.
Her grandfather walked by and said you still playing chess, Jazz 'Yes, and we are both winning". The game went on for a half an hour.
Thank you Susan for the enjoyment of playing.

All reviews are 5 stars? seriously?? c'mon guys, if you want to "learn" ionic framework, in my opinion, this is not the right book.
Ok, it is not expensive, but you can find articles on the web more detailed and clear. If I search for a book to learn developing mobile apps with Ionic framework, I need a step-by-step book which explains in deep what I'm doing. I can suggest this book to people who already know AngularJS and already have a bit of background about Ionic framework, but if you are really newbie, this book is not helpful.
Just an example: there is less than a page to explain what is Firebase...

Not the best one, but ok.

Before I purchased that ebook, I checked out the introduction and the topics. At the beginning, I was so excited, that I found a tutorial about the topics I was interested in. Overall, the tutorials were okay, but there're things to improve:
Often I didn't know in which file we're. I always had to checkout the Git Repository to understand, where to place the snippets. It would be nice to always have a headline with the filename. Sometimes the description wasn't clear enough.

But what do I expect for 2€. At the end, I'm still thankful for the tutorial, but they aren't worth 4 or 5 stars. Sorry.

For just a dollar, this is a great investment for anyone new to Ionic, or just learning on a new app. For twenty bucks, perhaps not. It is a very thin tutorial/overview, meaning nothing is dealt with in depth. The basics are covered, and you can go through all the examples very quickly. He points you to places to see tools or resources in more depth. For a modest sum, there is a very good, basic overview on udemy, among other places.
